A Motorcycle Ride from Delhi to Bangalore | Part 2 | A Brave Decision

This is 2nd post on my ride from Delhi to Bangalore on Motorcycle [A Motorcycle Ride from Delhi to Bangalore]. As I passed the beautiful peaks of eastern ghats of India, I took the route to the route to the Mahendragiri Peak. I learned the significance of Mahendragiri peaks in Hindu Mythology. Mahendragiri in Ramayana and Mahendragiri in Mahabharata. I will write full stories for these in my Poems and Stories Website.

In my last post as you read that it was raining harshly, and I had to cross cyclone affected areas as per my route plan. A brave decision is the continuation of my ride from Delhi to Bangalore on Motorcycle (Read Post). This ride was through the Eastern Ghats of India. Eastern Ghats are mid height mountain range on the Eastern Side of India. During this ride, I went through landscape variety, weather variety, cultural variety and language variety.

BhanjNagar, Odisha

It was almost 7:00 PM when I reached Bhanjnagar in Odisha. My target was Asika Village, however, I had to stop at Bhanjnagar due to heavy rain. This was an impact of Cyclone Asani that impacted Odisha and Andhra in 2022. I was thinking that I would not be able to complete the ride.

However, I stayed at Bhanjnagar, I found a good to stay lodge “Lodge Sai Palace”. It had a good parking space and I found easy to park my motrocycle and had not to worry about the luggage that I was carrying.

The place of stay was near the Bhanjnagar Police Station and near to Bhanjnagar Bus Stand. I thought, I will get good to eat places, however, I was little late to come out for food. Lastly, I found an awesome place to eat. It was “Aska Hotel”. It had a great variety of food. However, my language created a confusion for them, and I ended up ordering too much food. The food was delicious, and I had all. Now, I was good to sleep and start my journey forward in the morning.

When I woke up in the morning, I found that the rain was heavy. So, I waited for 1 more hour. I became restless and then I took the decision to ride in the rain. Yes! I started riding in rain and heavy rain. I could not let my dream die. Due to the rain, I could not capture more pictures. I had my Mobile in my dry bag.

The main motive was to experience the place and not pictures. So, I took that decision and started moving towards the Asika village.

Asika and Mahendragiri peak

My next destination was Asika village and suddenly, the rain stopped when I reached Asika. Due to the rain, my speed was slow and now, I was hungry. I stopped at the Asika Market and ate the breakfast. People there told me that the weather is sunny now and there will be many YouTubers goinng to the Mahendragiri peak. I was excited. But later you will see, how my experience was?

From Asika, I started riding towards Mahendragiri peak. For some time, the rain was not there, however, there were clouds. After Asika, I did not stop for eating or rest. I knew that riding on mountain roads will take more time.

Mahendragiri (Odisha) – The beautiful peak of Eastern Ghats

This is the highest peak of Eastern Ghats in Odisha. I know somewhere, you will find it as highest peak of Eastern Ghats and somewhere it is 2nd highest peak. However, I think, I was not interested in this fact. I was interested in its beauty. After I went to the Mahendragiri, I realized it’s importance in Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata.

The peak height is: 15,01 meters. I reached there by 3:00 PM in the evening. To go towards Mahendragiri you need to cross a barricade by local police. A small amount of Rs. 20 need to be paid and the person will ask you to return before 6:00 PM.

This was a new rule because, people go to Mahendragiri with loud noise speakers, they cook non-vegetarian food and consume alcohol. This was reported and Odisha Police has to take this action. Please do not ruin beautiful and religious places. Your home is a better place to eat, drink, and celebrate the loud music.

The route to Mahendragiri Peak

The rain was not there. But there was dense fog. At 2:00 PM the visibility was up to 3 meters only. Riding up the mountain, multiple times I was unsure about the turns that I needed to take. On my left there was deep trench, and, on my right, there was the mountain side.

After the barricade, I had to ride almost 12 Km to reach the peak and it took around 2 hours. I stopped at few places where fog was not that dense. Appreciated the beauty of Mahendragiri and surrounding mountains. On a contrary, what someone told me about YouTubers visiting this place, I found myself completely alone in this place. I could not even see a human being. I saw monkeys on the trees, they were sticking to the branches as it was cold enough.

I was scared of wild animals, because I heard of Leopard at this place. To an extent, I was enjoying the company of my Royal Enfield. However, it was tired of running slowly through the fog.

Finnally I readhed the peak and the Mahendragiri temple was there. I met a priest there, his name is “Mahendra” too. He told me about the place.

Mahendragiri Parvat – In Hinduism

Mahendragiri in Ramayana

Mahendragiri is referred as Mahendra parvat in Rammayana. As per puranas, there are 7 parvats (mountians) and Mahendra Parvat is one of them. The 6 others are Malaya Mountain, Sahyadri Mountain, Parijatra Mountain, Shuktiman Mountain, Vindhya Mountain and Malyavaan Mountain.

Parashuram, who is one of the immortals and an incarnation of Vishnu, is said to be meditating on Mahendra Parvat.

Mahendragiri in Mahabharata

The temples built by Pandavas in Mahabharat are present on the Mahendragiri Parvat. The main temple on the peak is dedicated to Shiva. Shiva is worshipped on Mahendragiri and Shivaratri is the mainn festival.

My experiecnce at Mahendragiri

I met a priest there, his name is “Mahendra” and meeting him removed all the fear I had. He denied appearing in a video. However, he told many relevant stories. He was living alone for 2 months and was working on some ritual. He was all alone.

After a few talks with him, he offered me a cup of tea and asked me to stay for the night. However, I felt I need to cover a long distance and time is less. I repent my decision; I should have stayed there. That would have been another experience.

At Mahendragiri, I felt relaxed and extremely positive about an experience that was of another level.

Mahendragiri to Sirikakulam

It was around 5:30 PM and I was started to come down and by 7:00 PM I was back to the barricade. There was no one to be found. It started raining heavily; however, I started moving further. I reached a place call Parlalakhemundi. I ate my dinner in a restaurant and expected the rain to slow down. However, it rained harder.

I started again and the route was all forest. I hit a 6-lane highway and reached Sirikakulam. During this stretch, I was counting every km that I covered. I sand to keep myself motivated. I reached Sirikakulm, diverted to the town from the highway and stayed at a hotel.

A Motorcycle Ride from Delhi to Bangalore A brave decision

This was indeed a brave decision, and I am thankful to the God that I was inspired to take my journey forward. Else, I would have never written this post. This is something inspiring me every moment and motivating my life. There will be hard times in life, however, one needs to decide as what he wants from the life and how can someone fight with the situation.

If you think similarly, please comment. What was a tough decision that you took, and you were successful? See, I am a traveler, and managing my career in IT as well. To maintain and manage anything, you need self-inspiration and self-motivation. This one thing, I learned while riding long distances. I can only trust on my decisions and be ready for any outcome that I arrive by taking decisions.
